Job Summary
Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas by scanning assigned zones in compliance with the 10/10 rule and performing swim tests as required. Respond to emergency situations, enforce health and safety rules, and complete incident reports while performing routine maintenance of the pool, locker rooms, and equipment. Create a welcoming environment for members, parents, and students by developing rapport and working as part of a team under the direction of the Aquatics Director. Complete mandatory in-service trainings and uphold YMCA core values. Shifts are scheduled evenings Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. for ages 16 and up. Lifeguard certification, CPR, First Aid, and AED credentials are required.
Required Qualifications
- YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross lifeguard certification
- Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED certifications
- Advanced swimming and rescue skills test
- At least 15 years of age
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Full range of body movement
- Exercise mature judgment and sound decision making
- Relate to people in a positive, but firm manner
- Observant
- Safety conscious
- React calmly and quickly in an emergency
- Effectively communicate information on YMCA programs to members and participants
- Participation and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
