Job Summary
Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas by scanning assigned zones in compliance with the 10/10 rule. Perform swim tests, enforce health and safety rules, and respond to emergency situations per YMCA policies. Complete incident reports, perform routine maintenance of pool and locker rooms, and manage recreational swim equipment. Develop rapport with members, parents, and students while participating in mandatory in-service trainings. Work evening shifts Monday through Friday under the direction of the Aquatics Director.
Required Qualifications
- YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross lifeguard certification
- Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED certifications
- Advanced swimming and rescue skills test
- At least 15 years of age
- Ability to exercise mature judgment and sound decision making
- Ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner
- Observant
- Safety conscious
- Ability to react calmly and quickly in an emergency
- Ability to effectively communicate information on YMCA programs to members and participants
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Full range of body movement
- Participation and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
