Job Summary
Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and surrounding deck, scanning the perimeter before taking the stand and checking for hazardous conditions upon arrival. Address member concerns, direct swimmers to appropriate lanes, and assist with swim lessons as needed. Perform equipment checks, conduct chemical testing when not guarding, and complete related reports. Respond immediately to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This role rotates between Bridgewater and Somerville locations. Candidates must hold current YMCA or ARC lifeguard certification, CPR/AED, and Basic First Aid credentials.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age of 18
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- AED
- Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen
- Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard or equivalent
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Must be able to hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility
- Must be able to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness
- Must be able to see and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility
- Must be able to dress in Uniform – Required Items: Lifeguard Shirt, bathing suit, whistle, and PPE hip bag
