Job Summary
Monitor the pool area continuously, respond immediately to emergency situations using the "safe-in-six" model, and perform daily equipment checks and chemical testing. Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required by YMCA and state health department codes. Deliver high-quality service to members, participants, staff, and community partners while supporting departmental goals through effective communication and teamwork. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all safety policies and operational standards.
Required Qualifications
- Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent (YMCA Lifeguard needed within 90 days of employment)
- Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
- Proficiency in applicable technology, software, and systems
- Commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and the YMCA mission
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License
- Maintain acceptable driving record in accordance with YMCA policy
- Maintain required automobile insurance coverage
- Use reliable transportation for Association business
- Criminal background check/fingerprinting
- Reference verification

- TB clearance (if applicable)
- Physical examination (if applicable)
- Must be available for weekends, holidays, and special events
