Job Summary
Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of patrons using the aquatic facilities at Harvard Recreation by enforcing rules and responding to emergencies. Perform chemical testing and document results for three bodies of water and a hot tub four times daily, while maintaining the area through towel folding, cleaning, water machine refills, and facility inspections. Attend all required staff meetings and training, and complete the mandatory basic lifeguard skill test including 500-yard swim and rescue techniques. This part-time role (10–15 hours per week) offers flexible hours for students within HealthFitness's team of over 2,400 professionals dedicated to improving health and wellbeing.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 15 years old
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification
- Meet HealthFitness Fitness and Skill standards
- Be dependable, alert and able to interact with people of all ages in a positive manner with strong customer service skills
- Computer proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Working knowledge of the member management system, databases, and tools
- 500 yard swim
- Active rescues
- Passive rescues
- Submerged rescues
- Spinal injury management in shallow and deep water
- Other various techniques that were learned during the Lifeguard Training Program
