Job Summary
Lifeguard at West Suburban YMCA (Newton, MA) — full-time role focused on maintaining safe swimming conditions and promoting camper safety. Responsibilities include active surveillance of the pool area, immediate response to emergencies, reviewing emergency procedures, completing incident/accident reports, maintaining professional appearance, supporting DEIB initiatives, and fostering positive relationships with members and staff. Additional duties include equipment checks, chemical checks, maintaining compliance with safety rules and YMCA policies, attending staff meetings, and participating in ongoing trainings and certifications. Schedule varies and may include mornings, evenings, or weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age of 16 years old
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Committing to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Punctual and reliable
- Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned
