Job Summary
Monitor the entire pool area and deck for safety, enforcing pool rules and conducting routine safety checks on equipment. Respond immediately to emergency situations by reviewing procedures, acting calmly under pressure, and completing required reports. Maintain accurate records of water temperature and chemical levels, and attend all assigned meetings and trainings. This role supports the Y's mission to strengthen community through youth development and healthy living. Required Qualifications
- Current nationally recognized certification
- Current First Aid certification
- Current BLS certification
- Current Oxygen Administration certification
- Ability to pass the basic lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Certification-level physical and mental readiness
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Minimum of 16 years of age
- Ability to work accurately at a fast pace
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness and heat
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, and communicating with emergency response personnel over the telephone
- High level of alertness, concentration, and initiative to recognized victims in need
- Ability to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness
- Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform job responsibilities
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to occasionally stoop/bend
- Ability to physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard
