Job Summary
Guard the pool and supervise students in accordance with local board of health regulations, ensuring a lifeguard is always on duty. Fulfill daily cleaning and operations, including cleaning the pool deck, vacuuming the pool, inspecting safety equipment, and checking the mechanical room. Prevent emergencies by scanning the pool continuously, warning swimmers of dangerous behavior, and enforcing pool rules. Perform assists or rescues as needed and administer CPR or artificial respiration. Inspect facilities, equipment, and water to ensure health and safety standards, including chemical balance and water testing at least twice daily. Contact the Aquatics Manager immediately for concerns and initiate emergency action plans. Maintain accurate daily records and comply with uniform regulations. Work effectively with swim instructors and attend all required in-service training.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 18 years of age or older
- Current American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguard Training (including Lifeguard Skills, First Aid, and CPR/AED)
- Minimum of six (6) months of related work experience as a lifeguard
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
- Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety
- Knowledge of pool health and safety standards
- Ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the position
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment and diverse organization, including continuously interacting and working with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures

- Compliance with the Department's uniform regulations (wearing a top with the word 'lifeguard' and an appropriate lifeguard bathing suit)
- Attendance at all required in-service training(s)
- Compliance with local board of health regulations
- Ability to administer CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary
