Job Summary
Maintain active surveillance of the pool area, preventing accidents through rule enforcement and ensuring a clean, chemically balanced environment. Respond immediately to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies, complete related reports, and check for hazardous conditions upon arrival. Maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff while applying safety rules and guidelines to ensure compliance with state Health Department codes. Perform equipment checks, attend all staff meetings and in-service training, and demonstrate lifeguard skills including CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age of 16
- Certification: American Red Cross Lifeguarding which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility
- Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness
- See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility
