Job Summary
Maintains safe swimming conditions and enforces pool safety at YMCA facilities. Performs continuous scanning and search-rescue duties, responds to emergencies, completes required reports, and upholds safety standards and policies. Demonstrates strong communication to engage members, maintains physical readiness to perform lifeguard tasks (e.g., treading water, swimming long distances, dives), and adheres to YMCA leadership competencies and safety procedures. Certifications required with provisional exception for pre-hire enrollment; related experience preferred (lifeguard 1–2 years).
Required Qualifications
- MANDATORY CERTIFICATIONS: Current YMCA Lifeguarding, American Safety & Health Institute or American Red Cross or American Heart Association BLS for the Professional Rescuer, Standard/Community First Aid certifications
- Provisional exception allowing hire before certifications if enrolled in YMCA Lifeguard course within 30 days
