Job Summary
Operate, maintain, and repair life support systems for live animal habitats, including pumps, sand filters, UV, and ozone generators. Conduct daily inspections of aquatic life support equipment, monitor water quality parameters, and coordinate corrective actions. Perform pre-opening commissioning, system startup, and performance testing while maintaining accurate logs in the CMMS. Assist in seawater preparation, general building maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and AZA standards while enforcing safety protocols. Work seven days a week with varying schedules, weekends, and holidays to support seasonal operations and special events.
Required Qualifications
- One year+ in a similar position
- PADI Open Water or equivalent (or able to obtain within 90 days of employment)
- First Aid, CPR, Emergency O2, and AED certification (or able to obtain within 90 days of employment)
- Ability to adhere to OSHA standards and proper use of personal protective equipment in an aquarium environment
- Working proficiency with basic hand tools and power tools
- Skilled in general construction, troubleshooting mechanical systems and the safe use of tools
- Knowledge of water chemistry and monitoring in an aquarium environment
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system
- Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations
- Ability to perform the physical, visual and hearing requirements in the working conditions above
- Must be available for varying schedules, weekends, holidays and overtime
- Must be able to attend group and/or department meetings in addition to the work shift as necessary
- Must comply with standards, rules and regulations established by the Company
