Job Summary
Deliver learning activities and vocational skills instruction to special education students, adapting curricula to individual ability levels. Develop and modify instructional materials, present subject matter aligned with Individual Education Plans, and actively engage students using appropriate strategies. Participate in ARD committee meetings to collaborate on IEP development and monitor student achievement through formal and informal assessments. Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding services, while managing student behavior and intervening in crisis situations as necessary. Plan and supervise teacher aides, document services through the district's online platform, and maintain accurate records of all student interactions and progress.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid Texas special education teaching certificate
- Valid certificate that matches the subject and grade level of the assignment
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Ability to be patient, flexible, and versatile
- Basic technology competencies
- Successful student teaching experience or approved internship
