Life Skills Instructor - Salem

Life Skills Instructor in Salem, IN provides direct support, instruction, and guidance to individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting. The role focuses on promoting independence, teaching daily living skills (personal care, social skills, money management, and household tasks), and ensuring a safe, supportive home environment while encouraging community involvement and personal growth. Responsibilities include maintaining a pleasant and safe home, documenting progress toward individualized goals (ISP and Person-Centered Plans), assisting with service plans, monitoring progress, supporting health and safety, engaging residents in recreation and community activities, promoting independence and personal rights, completing household tasks, maintaining documentation and confidentiality, attending meetings, and providing shift coverage as needed. Essential skills include strong verbal and written communication, ability to teach and reinforce positive behaviors, relationship-building, organizational and documentation abilities, and the capacity to work independently or as part of a team. Certifications and background requirements include CPR/First Aid, disease transmission prevention, medication training, CPI, valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation. Education is HS-equivalent with preferred experience in residential disability services.
