Job Summary
Life Skills Instructor provides direct, supportive guidance to individuals to master independent living skills (personal management, household management, nutrition, money management, safety, social skills). Responsibilities include monitoring consumer behavior and implementing behavior management programs, documenting activities and incidents, maintaining safety and cleanliness of living areas, transporting residents to activities, administering medications per DDS guidelines, providing counseling and reinforcement, and acting as an advocate while upholding agency policies. The role requires coordinating with guardians, agencies, and staff, participating in trainings, reporting incidents promptly, and ensuring compliance with licensing and contract requirements. Shifts include overnight hours; location: Norwich, CT. The position is field-based with local travel in Connecticut, and requires carrying out program planning, case load management, and daily/weekly/monthly paperwork.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum possession of a High School Diploma or a G.E.D.
- Minimum two years experience working with individuals with developmentally disabilities or dual diagnosis
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, PMT and DDS State Medication Administration certifications
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and assist with transfers
- Excellent interpersonal skills
