Job Summary
Conduct daily life skills instruction and supervise special needs students in the classroom, between classes, and during lunch. Assist certified teachers in delivering lessons, setting up equipment, and managing small group or one-on-one interactions. Provide direct support for toileting routines, meal times including tube feeding, and medical interventions. Enforce behavior with dignity while maintaining physical readiness to move, lift, or restrain students as needed. Observe a class and ask questions prior to formal offer. Two years of college coursework or Associate's degree required; fingerprinting mandatory. Bilingual and biliterate candidates encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications
- Two (2) years of college coursework or Associate's Degree (May be waived pending successful performance on skills test administered by the District)
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Person filling this position will have to be fingerprinted
- Ability to independently monitor and supervise special needs students in the classroom, between classes and during lunch in small groups or one-on-one
- Flexibility and initiative to encourage and nurture students
- Patience and the ability to enforce good behavior and provide discipline with dignity
- The physical ability to regularly stand, walk or sit on the floor while working with students in different settings
- The physical ability to regularly move, lift or restrain students
- Ability to meet standards of the Life Skills Educational Assistant (Para-Professional)
