Job Summary
Lead and assist with person-centered activities designed for residents living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, utilizing programming techniques that promote engagement and reduce anxiety. Build meaningful one-on-one relationships through individualized visits, adapting activities to accommodate each resident's cognitive and physical abilities while providing sensory stimulation, music, and therapeutic exercises. Monitor residents for changes in mood or condition, communicate concerns to nursing staff, and assist with community outings while ensuring safety. Document participation in Point of Care and collaborate with caregivers, volunteers, and families to deliver meaningful, individualized programming. Work typical hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., including weekend, holiday, and occasional evening rotations to support seasonal and family programs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings and meet applicable state and federal training requirements
- Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed to support resident activities, community events, and seasonal programming
- Participation in a weekend and holiday rotation
- Must be available to work occasional evenings for special events, holiday celebrations, family programs, and other scheduled activities
- Must be able to perform each essential duty
Desired Qualifications
- Previous Memory Care or dementia care experience
- Experience leading activities for older adults
- CNA certification
- Knowledge of person-centered dementia care practices
- Previous experience working in a Memory Care, dementia care, assisted living, skilled nursing, or healthcare setting
- Understands the unique needs, behaviors, and communication techniques associated with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias
- Demonstrates patience, empathy, and compassion in every interaction
- Can remain calm, flexible, and positive while supporting residents with varying cognitive abilities
- Is creative in adapting activities to meet individual resident needs and interests
- Builds trusting relationships with residents and families
- Works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team
- Has outstanding customer service and communication skills
- Has a passion for memory care and understands how meaningful engagement can improve quality of life
