Job Summary
Coaches and assists in implementing classroom programs for students with disabilities and supports the special education teacher in preparing instructional materials and managing student behavior. Responsibilities include assisting with transfers and positioning for students with physical needs, maintaining classroom organization and records, orienting substitute teachers, supervising students during the school day and in community activities, and supporting vocational job-site experiences for students. Requires interaction with students with disabilities, adherence to district policies, maintaining confidentiality, and participating in staff development; credentials include a Texas Educational Aide Certificate and an associate-degree-level qualification or higher.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
- Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester hours) or associate’s degree or demonstrated ability to assist in reading, writing, and math
- Experience working with children (preferred)
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- CDL preferred
