Job Summary
Provide exceptional and compassionate patient care for avian and exotic patients from admission through discharge; provide anesthesia and surgical support for exotics patients; assist in caring for hospitalized exotics patients and perform treatments and restraint for exams as needed; operate and maintain surgical and anesthetic equipment; maintain and stock inventory; communicate professionally and effectively with clients and referring veterinarians; participate in educational and research projects with exotics focus; benefits include comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage, sign-on bonus, relocation reimbursement for qualified candidates living outside NYC metro, 403b matching, PTO, tuition assistance, and loan forgiveness opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Must have NYS Veterinary Technician’s license
- Knowledge and ability related techniques associated with the care of avian and exotic veterinary patients.
- Ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships and customer satisfaction with all stakeholders, including department staff, medical staff, support staff, clients and referring veterinarians
- Must be able to work successfully as part of a team
- Must have ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations
- Ability to communicate clearly with clients, technicians, and vets
- Flexibility and the ability to accommodate shift work in a hospital that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
