Job Summary

Facilitate triage of incoming patients and collect diagnostic samples, imaging, and non-laboratory diagnostics while understanding normal parameter markers. Obtain veterinary orders for outpatient treatments and hospitalizations, including IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and administering required medications and fluid boluses. Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures from anesthetic protocol development to post-operative recovery care and medical documentation. Perform blood typing, crossmatches, and set up transfusions while adhering to OSHA protocols and controlled substance documentation. Discharge patients by filling medications, ensuring comfort, and reviewing discharge instructions with pet owners. Support the team with end-of-shift checklists, restocking, and kennel maintenance.

Required Qualifications

Licensed Veterinary Technician
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Must be available for weekend shifts
Must be available for holidays
Must be available for overnight shifts
Must be able to perform blood typing
Must be able to set up for transfusions
Must understand clinical signs of transfusion related reactions
Must understand normal parameter markers
Must understand all the steps associated with hospitalization
Must understand side effects of anesthetic agents being administered
Must understand and follow protocol when administering and documenting controlled substances
Must understand and perform proper medical record documentation in accordance with hospital policy and the board of veterinary medical standards
