Job Summary
Assist in the provision of medical and surgical care of animals in the shelter. Manages treatment plans for hospitalized patients, performs diagnostics (x-ray, in-house laboratory) and sampling (blood, swabbing), administers medications via all routes, and leads the surgery team. Works independently as well as part of a team to ensure timely, quality medical care. Responsibilities include administering drugs and vaccines, performing LVT examinations, interpreting clinical information, handling and restraining animals, obtaining diagnostics, assisting with surgery (pre, intra, and post-operative care and anesthesia), documenting medication activity and medical records, aging/sexing/disease recognition, microchip implantation, euthanasia certification as required, and ongoing documentation and coordination with other departments. May require working at other ACC locations; position is based in the medical department at a specific ACC location.
Required Qualifications
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology, or foreign equivalent recognized by NYS.
- Licensure in NYS to practice veterinary technology.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs and stand for prolonged periods.
