Job Summary
Administer drugs and vaccines by all routes, perform LVT examinations in SOAP format, and interpret clinical information to act swiftly. Handle, restrain, and triage all animals entering the shelter while regularly performing peripheral blood sampling and IV catheter placement. Assist with all aspects of surgery, including anesthesia monitoring, and obtain diagnostics such as radiographs and bloodwork as ordered. Collect samples for laboratory tests, perform necropsies, and implant microchips. Document drug activity, DEA logs, and medical findings in Shelter Buddy records, and properly record statistics as required by law. This role requires licensure in NYS and the ability to lift 50 lbs while standing for prolonged periods. You must obtain ACC-provided euthanasia certification and complete Fear Free training within 30 days. Full-time positions receive an annual $200 education benefit and two extra days of time off starting July 1st.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Veterinary Technician
- Associates or bachelor's degree in veterinary technology, or foreign equivalent recognized by NYS
- Licensure in NYS to practice veterinary technology
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to remain calm yet professional in stressful situations involving animals and/or members of the public
- Ability to obtain ACC-provided euthanasia certification
- Ability to obtain Fear Free certification within 30 days of hire
