Job Summary
Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in residence with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and behavioral issues while collaborating with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to maintain a secure environment. Perform and document mental health evaluations, progress notes, individual and group counseling notes, and treatment plans, addressing criminogenic needs to promote positive behavioral change. Participate in educational activities for patients and staff, manage case files, prepare reports, and initiate patient education programs. Monitor compliance with site-specific policies and ACA, NCCHC standards. This PRN position offers a $7,000 sign-on bonus for full-time hires, with pay ranging from $36.00 to $42.00 per hour.
Required Qualifications
- Master's prepared degree in counseling or related field, i.e. social work
- Active, unrestricted licensure as a (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LISW, LPCC, etc.) in state
- Active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- Minimum of 3 years' clinical experience in a mental health care or acute care setting, with correctional healthcare experience preferred
- Knowledge and experience in the identification and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders
- Discharge planning
- Principles of social work
- Basic principles of individual and group behavior
- Working knowledge of psychotropic medications
- Ability to remain calm under pressure while assess patients' situations, underlying causes of their behavior and be able to develop interventions and treatment plans
- Effective communications skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct
- Compliance with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances
- Perform physically demanding tasks like CPR
- Maintain good balance and endurance throughout a shift
