Job Summary

Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in residence with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and behavioral issues while collaborating with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to maintain a safe environment. Perform and document mental health evaluations, progress notes, and individual treatment plans; initiate patient education programs and group therapy. Monitor compliance with site-specific policies, ACA, and NCCHC standards, and prepare reports for hearings. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to correctional healthcare procedures. Requires 3+ years clinical experience, correctional background preferred, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Full-time role in Hillsborough County Jail, Tampa.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Social Worker Mental Health Counselor (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LMSW, LISW, LPC, or LPCC)
  • 3 years' clinical experience in a mental health care or acute care setting
  • Correctional healthcare experience
  • Knowledge and experience in the identification and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders
  • Experience in discharge planning
  • Knowledge of principles of social work
  • Knowledge of basic principles of individual and group behavior
  • Working knowledge of psychotropic medications
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure while assessing patients' situations, underlying causes of their behavior, and developing interventions and treatment plans
  • Effective communications skills for building patient rapport and relaying information and treatment plan with other medical and mental health care professionals
  • Strong organizational skills to keep track of patient treatment plans and progress notes
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Ability to pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR
  • Good balance and endurance throughout a shift
