Job Summary
Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in residence with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and behavioral issues while collaborating with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to maintain a secure environment. Perform and document mental health evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, and group counseling sessions; initiate patient education programs and monitor compliance with ACA and NCCHC standards. Maintain case files, prepare reports, and participate in hearings to support discharge planning and positive behavioral change. Requires full-time day shifts in a controlled correctional setting with a minimum of three years clinical experience.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Social Worker Mental Health Counselor (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LMSW, LISW, LPC, or LPCC)
- Minimum of 3 years' clinical experience in a mental health care or acute care setting
- Correctional healthcare experience
- Knowledge and experience in the identification and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders
- Experience in discharge planning
- Knowledge of principles of social work
- Knowledge of basic principles of individual and group behavior
- Working knowledge of psychotropic medications
- Ability to remain calm under pressure while assessing patients' situations, underlying causes of their behavior, and developing interventions and treatment plans
- Effective communications skills for building patient rapport and relaying information and treatment plan with other medical and mental health care professionals
- Strong organizational skills to keep track of patient treatment plans and progress notes
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct
- Ability to comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Pass the facility's criminal background check
- Pass drug screening
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR
- Ability to maintain good balance and endurance throughout a shift
