Job Summary

Provide mental health evaluations, conduct suicide risk assessments, and perform clinical interviews for inmates at the Represa facility. Deliver crisis intervention, group psychotherapy, and health education while documenting care and monitoring patient progress. Consult with supervisors and interdisciplinary teams to develop treatment plans and manage complex cases. Work 40 hours per week in a 5x8 or 4x10 schedule from 7:00am to 3:00pm or 5:30pm. Requires a California Board of Behavioral Sciences license.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
  • Must be licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS)
  • Must be available for on-call during scheduled workdays
  • Must be available for weekend shifts (implied by 5x8s or 4x10s schedule)
  • Must be able to climb stairs and walk long distances
  • Must be able to provide clinical, in-person interviews at cell fronts in inmate housing units
  • Must be able to conduct initial mental health (MH) evaluations including criminal, psychological, and substance abuse case history
  • Must be able to conduct clinically sound suicide risk evaluations
  • Must be able to identify the relevant signs and symptoms of psychiatric disorders
  • Must be able to write clinical reports regarding diagnoses and prognoses
  • Must be able to develop treatment plans
  • Must be able to consult on complex cases with supervisor, treatment team members, institutional health care personnel, and other divisions within the department
  • Must be able to document all care provided to the patient
  • Must be able to monitor patient progress using CDCR/CCHCS MH approved documentation formatting
  • Must be able to perform mental status exam (MSE) in-person clinical interviews
  • Must be able to examine patient information from electronic medical record, inpatient record, custody file, institutional chronos, probation reports, court records, and other available documents
  • Must be able to conduct health education and develop additional resources for patients
  • Must be able to assist patients in applying for entitlement benefits community programs, and services
  • Must be able to effectively apply community standard of practice for non-medical treatment modalities and ethical standards
  • Must be able to provide consultation and crisis intervention services on an as-needed basis
  • Must be able to meet with patients for group psychotherapy
  • Must be able to work under the direction/supervision of the CEO/CME/Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker or designee
  • Must be able to work 40 Hours per week
  • Must be able to work the Represa, CA location
  • Must be able to work the 5x8s or 4x10s schedule
  • Must be able to work the 7:00am-3:00pm or 7:00am-5:30pm shift times
  • Must be able to work as an Independent Contractor (1099)
  • Must be able to work in the California State Correctional Facilities
