Job Summary
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to support the VA San Diego Healthcare System. Responsibilities include obtaining patient and family history, performing quality control checks and maintenance on patient care equipment, assisting in identifying patient needs and implementing the plan of care, documenting care provided and patient responses, preparing patients for examinations, executing nurse-initiated and physician orders, communicating data to providers, recognizing and initiating response to emergencies, educating patients and families on medications and therapies, ensuring accuracy of prepared reports, monitoring quality of care, responding to ward inquiries, assisting with ward administrative tasks, administering oxygen, IV fluids, and prescribed medications per VA policy, and demonstrating cultural sensitivity. Requires a valid California nursing license, BLS, and the ability to lift and move typical weights among adult medical/surgical patients; emphasis on documentation, patient safety, and interprofessional collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- Valid California LVN/LPN license without limitations or pending adverse actions
- Active nursing practice as an LPN for at least one year within the past three years
- Current BLS certification
- Documented training and skills verification
