Job Summary
Conduct patient assessments, administer medications, and manage chronic illnesses while providing wound care and emergency first aid to individuals in the Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility. Maintain medical records in the electronic health record system, observe patient health and mental health status, and deliver patient education and discharge planning. Work alongside correctional officers in a secure environment to protect patient rights and dignity, ensuring compliance with correctional healthcare policies and legal requirements. Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting patients up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Actively state certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
Desired Qualifications
- Be able to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
