Job Summary
Administer treatments and medications to terminally ill patients while evaluating their response to care and monitoring reactions. Execute nursing protocols for physical comfort, including positioning, wound care, and personal hygiene, under the supervision of a registered nurse. Maintain accurate clinical documentation, report significant condition changes to the Team Manager or Physician, and assist the interdisciplinary team in designing patient plans of care. Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families to support their independence and participate in patient teaching regarding illness, self-care, and discharge preparation. Work flexible schedules including weekends and rotating shifts, with on-call rotation as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must have and maintain transportation to be used for work with required liability insurance and license
- Graduate of an approved school of Practical/Vocational nursing
- Currently licensed to practice nursing in the state where the VITAS program is located
- At least one year of satisfactory nursing experience, at least one year of which is an LPN/LVN in a hospital on an adult medical surgical unit
- Equivalent experience
- Is willing to work on flexible schedule, i.e., weekends or rotating shifts
- Assist in lifting and transferring patients, as required
- Lift objects in excess of 20 pounds
- Stand or walk in excess of one hour per day
- Talk and hear
- Close vision
- Distance vision
- Ability to adjust focus
- Sit and stoop, kneel, and crouch
