Job Summary
Administer nursing care to terminally ill patients in the VITAS program, including treatments, medications, and wound care under RN supervision. Evaluate patient and family needs, assist in interdisciplinary care plans, and monitor responses to treatments while documenting clinical notes. Initiate nursing protocols for physical comfort and mental well-being, such as positioning, hygiene, and mobilization. Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, participate in teaching regarding illness and self-care, and maintain a safe environment. Work flexible schedules including weekends and rotating shifts, with on-call rotation as assigned. Requires current state licensure, one year of LPN experience on an adult medical surgical unit, and transportation with liability insurance.
Required Qualifications
- Must have and maintain transportation to be used for work with required liability insurance and license
- Graduate of an approved school of Practical/Vocational nursing
- Currently licensed to practice nursing in the state where the VITAS program is located
- At least one year of satisfactory nursing experience, at least one year of which is an LPN/LVN in a hospital on an adult medical surgical unit
- Equivalent experience
- Is willing to work on flexible schedule, i.e., weekends or rotating shifts
- Assist in lifting and transferring patients, as required
- Lift objects in excess of 20 pounds
- Stand or walk in excess of one hour per day
- Close vision
- Distance vision
- Ability to adjust focus
- Ability to sit and stoop, kneel, and crouch
