Job Summary
Perform patient assessments, interview patients regarding health problems and medication history, and take vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight. Provide wound care by cleaning and bandaging injured areas, administer medications including injections while monitoring reactions, and maintain medical records in the electronic health record system. Observe patient health and mental health status, provide emergency first aid, and deliver patient education and discharge planning. Work alongside correctional officers in a controlled environment where security is a top priority, managing chronic illnesses and responding to emergencies for individuals in the Alabama Department of Corrections facility.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
- Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
