Job Summary
Perform patient assessments, interview patients regarding health problems and medication history, and take vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight. Provide wound care by cleaning and bandaging injured areas, administer medications including injections while monitoring reactions, and maintain medical records in the electronic health record, TechCare. Observe patient health and mental health status, provide emergency first aid, and deliver patient education and discharge or release planning. Work alongside correctional officers and a multidisciplinary medical team to respond to urgent medical needs in a structured correctional environment.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Possess an active CPR certification
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
- Must be available for day, night, weekend day, and weekend night shifts
