Job Summary

Enhanced LPN Orientation for internationally educated nurses to transition into LPN roles in Nova Scotia's continuing care sector. The program is a six-week orientation with classroom and on-unit components, and successful participants commit to a two-year return-of-service agreement as an LPN. Responsibilities generally include resident checks and rounds (vitals, safety, narcotics, charting), medication administration, resident personal care, resident/family/staff support, general duties including paperwork and supplies, and providing leadership to Continuing Care Assistants and other health staff. Locations available across the province with paid participation in the orientation.

Required Qualifications

  • Be an internationally educated nurse
  • Hold one of the following valid Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) licenses: conditional RN license and the ability to obtain a NSCN Licensed Practical Nurse license by the first day of the orientation; full RN license and the ability to obtain a NSCN Licensed Practical Nurse license by the first day of the orientation; conditional LPN license
  • Have experience as a RN within the last five years
  • Have valid CPR and First Aid certification within the last year
  • Have clear criminal and vulnerable sector check within the past three months
  • Have previous experience working with the elderly in long-term care or home care
  • Currently reside in Nova Scotia
