Job Summary
Coordinate Coumadin (warfarin) therapy by managing patient testing schedules, performing PT/INR tests, and recording results on flow sheets and lab systems. Educate patients on safe medication use, self-administration, and diagnosis procedures while counseling apprehensive individuals. Assist physicians with exams, special procedures, and charge tickets, including preparing charge tickets, document fees, and procedure codes. Handle medically related phone calls for prescriptions, hospital admissions, and patient inquiries, and screen pharmaceutical representatives. Schedule appointments for CT scans, MRIs, thyroid tests, EEGs, and mammograms, ensuring emergency preferences are met. Maintain strict patient confidentiality, ensure proper biohazard and sharps disposal, and respond to code blue situations.
Required Qualifications
- Louisiana State Practical Nursing (LPN) license
- Must be able to communicate effectively in written and verbal form

- Must maintain strict confidentiality and exercise professionalism when interacting with staff, managers, supervisors, physicians, external customers, etc
- Must comply with HIPPA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information
- Ability to relate to people and different situations with good judgment and integrity under stressful situations
- Requires standing, sitting, frequent walking, bending, and stooping
- May require lifting 25-50 pounds
- Exposure to possible hazardous materials/conditions and infectious diseases
Desired Qualifications
- Previous medical office experience preferred but not required
- EMR experience preferred
- Language Skills - The ability to communicate effectively with others in the healthcare team
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports
- Skills in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care
- Must accurately enter data into a database, search for information, send and receive email and attachments
