Job Summary
Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) supports plasma center operations, determines donor eligibility, manages donor adverse events, reviews laboratory test results, and notifies donors of unsuitable test results. Works under the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager) for operational guidance and under the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiar with plasma collection regulations and manufacturing environment; supports environmental, health and safety (EHS) initiatives; contributes to donor safety and program vaccination efforts; may serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS; duties include informed consent review, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and evaluation of donor reactions, as well as adherence to SOPs and escalation to physicians or Medical Affairs as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: LPN or LVN
- CPR and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
- Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting
