Job Summary
Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in residence with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and behavioral issues while collaborating with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to maintain a secure environment. Perform and document mental health evaluations, progress notes, individual and group counseling notes, and treatment plans. Monitor compliance with site-specific policies and ACA, NCCHC standards, initiate patient education programs, and participate in hearings. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to correctional healthcare procedures. Requires 3 years clinical experience, correctional healthcare background preferred, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Mental Health Professional (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LMSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC, LLMSW, LLP/MLP, MLP, LLMET)
- Minimum of 3 years' clinical experience in a mental health care or acute care setting
- Correctional healthcare experience
- Knowledge and experience in the identification and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders
- Experience in discharge planning
- Knowledge of principles of social work
- Knowledge of basic principles of individual and group behavior
- Working knowledge of psychotropic medications
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to assess patients' situations, underlying causes of their behavior, and develop interventions and treatment plans
- Effective communications skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct
- Ability to comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check
- Must pass drug screening
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR
- Good balance and endurance throughout a shift
