Job Summary

Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in residence with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and behavioral issues while collaborating with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to maintain a secure environment. Perform and document mental health evaluations, progress notes, individual and group counseling notes, and treatment plans to address criminogenic needs and promote behavioral change. Participate in educational activities, manage case files, prepare reports, and initiate patient education programs. Monitor compliance with site-specific policies and ACA, NCCHC standards. Requires three years of clinical experience, correctional healthcare background, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Full-time employment in Detroit, Michigan.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Mental Health Professional (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LMSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC, LLMSW, LLP/MLP, MLP, LLMET)
  • Minimum of 3 years' clinical experience in a mental health care or acute care setting
  • Correctional healthcare experience
  • Knowledge and experience in the identification and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders
  • Experience in discharge planning
  • Knowledge of principles of social work
  • Knowledge of basic principles of individual and group behavior
  • Working knowledge of psychotropic medications
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure while assessing patients' situations, underlying causes of their behavior, and developing interventions and treatment plans
  • Effective communications skills for building patient rapport and relaying information and treatment plan with other medical and mental health care professionals
  • Strong organizational skills to keep track of patient treatment plans and progress notes
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct
  • Ability to comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check
  • Must pass drug screening
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR
  • Good balance and endurance throughout a shift
