Job Summary

Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in residence with mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and behavioral issues while collaborating with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to maintain a secure environment. Perform and document mental health evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, and individual/group counseling sessions to address criminogenic needs and promote positive behavioral change. Initiate patient education programs, develop materials, and participate in hearings while monitoring compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards, and site-specific policies. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to correctional healthcare procedures. Requires active AL licensure, BLS CPR certification, and a minimum of three years clinical experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's prepared Mental Health Professional
  • active, unrestricted licensure as a (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LISW, etc.) in AL
  • active BLS CPR Certification
  • American Heart Association preferred
  • pass the facility's criminal background check
  • pass the facility's drug screening
  • minimum of 3 years' clinical experience in a mental health care or acute care setting
  • correctional healthcare experience preferred
  • knowledge and experience in the identification and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders
  • discharge planning
  • principles of social work
  • basic principles of individual and group behavior
  • working knowledge of psychotropic medications
  • ability to remain calm under pressure
  • ability to assess patients' situations
  • ability to identify underlying causes of their behavior
  • ability to develop interventions and treatment plans
