Job Summary
Command and operate the factory trawler safely under the Master's direction, navigating using charts, radar, and sonar while ensuring COLREGS and Coast Guard compliance. Direct fishing operations at night, record daily activities in the ship's log, and oversee all medical and safety activities on board. Conduct safety drills, serve as the Safety Officer, coordinate fire team leadership, and maintain station bill details and equipment checks. Work 12-hour days, seven days a week, in all weather conditions aboard vessels operating in the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, and Gulf of Alaska.
Required Qualifications
- Coast Guard License Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel license
- 1600 GT on the Unimak and Arica
- 4200 GT on the North Star
- minimum of 3 years of experience fishing onboard H&G vessels in Alaskan waters
- Work 12 hours per day, 7 days a week in all kinds of weather conditions
- Understand instructions and safety rules in English
- Board and exit vessel without assistance by climbing up and down a gangway or Jacob's ladder
- Capable of climbing and descending steep stairs and vertical ladders
- Able to be away from land-based medical attention for up to 3 months
