Job Summary
Provide social work services under physician direction to meet physical, mental, and emotional patient needs, including initial assessments, crisis intervention, and psychotherapeutic intervention for complex psychosocial difficulties. Conduct treatment planning, discharge coordination, and referrals for therapies while managing mandatory reporting for CPS, APS, and elder abuse. Serve as a multidisciplinary team member to develop treatment strategies and maintain accurate documentation in VISTA and medical records. Function as a liaison between families, the VA, and community agencies, while ensuring clinic compliance with federal, state, and safety regulations. Maintain universal precautions, CPR certification, and patient privacy throughout daily operations.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree of Social Work from a college or university accredited by the Council of Social Work education
- Retention of current license in the state in which the MSW/LCSW practices
- Retain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/ Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional social service principles, procedures, and techniques
- Knowledge of crisis and family dynamics
- Ability to assess patient condition, recognizes adverse signs and symptoms, and reacts swiftly in emergency situations
- Ability to set realistic, measurable education goals for patients, taking into consideration patient/family needs, level of understanding and available local resources
- Ability to develop and provide individualized and group counseling, guidance, and problem-solving assistance
- Knowledge of the basic concepts of customer service technique related to age-specific population
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette
- Ability to demonstrate proficient usage of medical terminology
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software and basic computer maneuverability
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in working with mental health/psychiatric patients
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-3 years MSW/LCSW experience preferred
