Job Summary
Coordinate daily surgical flow from check-in through discharge, preparing patients for surgery, administering anesthesia, and assisting veterinarians during spay/neuter procedures. Monitor patients before, during, and after anesthesia using established standards, tracking vital signs and responding to complications under veterinarian direction. Maintain accurate medical records, drug logs, and surgical documentation while restocking supplies and ensuring equipment readiness. Provide attentive post-operative care, manage pain management and vaccines, and communicate discharge instructions to clients. Support veterinary assistants and volunteers in maintaining organized patient movement and fostering a collaborative team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Current Washington State Veterinary Technician license
- Minimum two years of veterinary clinical experience
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical nursing
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Commitment to animal welfare and humane care practices
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities
- Proficiency in anesthetic monitoring equipment
- Ability to calculate anesthetic and medication dosages accurately
- Knowledge of aseptic surgical technique
- Working knowledge of controlled substance regulations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to safely handle animals of varying sizes and temperaments
- Ability to constantly stand
- Ability to frequently twist, bend/stoop, reach, and perform wrist flexion and extension
- Ability to occasionally sit, squat, or kneel
- Ability to seldomly work from a ladder, climb a ladder, climb stairs, crawl, or work above shoulders
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push/pull 10lb – 60lb (lifting or moving animals and equipment)
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in high-volume spay/neuter medicine
- Shelter medicine experience
- Experience training or mentoring support staff
