Job Summary
Serve as the main point of contact for Library users, providing circulation services and troubleshooting minor technology issues over the phone, email, and in person. Assist with collection development, materials processing, shelving, and special projects while monitoring building usage to maintain a visible presence. Contribute to continuous assessment processes to support Deerfield Academy's evolving goals regarding pedagogy, technology, and user preferences. Perform regular evening and weekend work as needed, including assistance during adverse weather or emergency situations to ensure essential services. Manage highly confidential information while fostering an inclusive environment for all users, including adolescents.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- 1 – 3 years' library or equivalent experience
- Strong customer service orientation
- Proven collaboration, communication, people skills
- General knowledge of library principles and policies
- Proficiency with multiple computer systems, software, and technology appropriate to libraries
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to provide reference instruction and technology support to students and faculty
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and projects
- Ability to work independently with initiative
- Ability to manage, and sensitivity to, highly confidential information
- Close visual acuity to analyze data and figures and to view a computer terminal
- Ability to occasionally ascend and descend stairs
- Ability to frequently sustain substantial movements of the wrist, hands and/or fingers
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 25 lbs
- Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel or reach
- Willingness to perform regular evening and or/weekend work
- Willingness to assist during adverse weather and emergency situations
