Job Summary
Provide supportive student-centred front-line service during evening and weekend shifts from September through April. Navigate the library catalogue and circulation system with accuracy to assist patrons, answer basic reference questions, and handle financial matters like fine payments. Open and close libraries, sort and shelve items, perform stacks maintenance, shelf-read sections, and search for missing materials. Supervise library student assistants and address security issues by referring serious problems to Campus Security. Work variable hours including evenings, weekends, and shifts until midnight across three Fredericton campus locations.
Required Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree in a related field
- Demonstrated experience providing service, preferably in an academic environment
- A relevant combination of coursework and experience
- Physical stamina for lifting, standing, and bending
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends; hours include working until midnight
- Will be required to provide service at all the three library locations on the Fredericton campus
- Expertise in searching library catalogues, databases, and other library resources
- Interpersonal skills to deal with faculty, staff, student, colleagues, and other library patrons with tact, discretion, and courtesy
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently with accuracy and careful attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently
- Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada
