Job Summary
Youth Services Library Assistant will lead youth programming (preschoolers to teens), develop engaging story times, create attractive displays, assist with the online catalog and tech help, support Summer Library Program, and help staff the Youth Services desk. Responsibilities include developing weekly programs, coordinating outreach to schools and daycare centers, ordering and maintaining the Youth Services collection, and executing programs and displays to promote library services. Requires AA degree or 60 college hours, public library or youth-program experience, strong knowledge of children’s/YA literature, cash handling, computer proficiency (Windows, MS Office), and physical ability to bend, lift up to 25 pounds, and travel as needed. Performs duties with courtesy and energy and may serve as PIC as needed.
Required Qualifications
- AA degree or 60 semester hours (or equivalent)
- One-year public library experience or one-year working with children, teens, and/or young adults
- Knowledge of contemporary and classic children’s and young adult literature
- Ability to handle cash transactions with accuracy and to place items in correct alphabetical and numerical sequences
- Ability to follow policies and procedures
- Knowledge of and ability to use PC in a Windows environment
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office or comparable software
- Ability to navigate the Internet
- The person holding this position must have the ability to hear, bend, stoop, push, pull, squat, crouch, reach above shoulder level, and lift and move objects up to 25 pounds
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
