Job Summary
Executive Director, Transactions Legal leading complex derivatives master agreement negotiations and providing senior legal counsel across India, Asia-ex-Japan, EMEA, and US. Responsibilities include negotiating ISDA Master Agreements, GMRA, prime brokerage agreements, and trade confirmations; drafting and negotiating multi-jurisdictional derivatives contracts across asset classes (rates, credit, equity, FX, commodities); advising on risks; coordinating regulatory compliance (Dodd-Frank, EMIR, MiFID II, CFTC/SEC); partnering with regional legal teams; leading regulatory implementation and initiatives; mentoring a team of 7-10 derivatives professionals; driving knowledge sharing, talent development, and escalation management; building relationships with external counsel, regulators and ISDA; and delivering business-focused legal counsel to traders, structurers, sales, and risk managers across global locations.
Required Qualifications
- LLB/LLM or equivalent legal qualification in relevant jurisdiction
- 17+ years, with at least 10 years of experience in derivatives contracts across multiple asset classes
- proven track record of leading complex derivatives transactions
- deep expertise in derivatives documentation including ISDA, GMRA, prime brokerage agreements
- experience in driving transformation and innovation initiatives
- excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- outstanding drafting and negotiating skills specific to derivatives documentation
- understanding of derivatives mechanics including netting, close-out, and margin requirements
- ability to provide business-aligned legal counsel and forward-thinking solutions
- confidence and credibility with senior stakeholders
- cultural sensitivity across diverse markets
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- strong project management and time management skills
- self-starter with sense of ownership
- knowledge of Indian laws and international derivatives regulations
