Job Summary
Provide individual clinical care to 2SLGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness or precarious housing using evidence-based modalities like DBT, CBT, and MI. Create comprehensive mental health assessments and individualized treatment plans, while making referrals to community programs and facilitating case conferences with treatment providers. Deliver psycho-education and connect clients with consulting psychology and psychiatry as needed. Build staff capacity through program and group facilitation and staff training. Complete all required clinical documentation. Work within a multidisciplinary team to support youth aged 16-21 in Hamilton with significant mental health and substance use needs.
Required Qualifications
- Lived/living experience of a 2SLGBTQ+ identity
- A combination of education (BSW, or equivalent) and experience supporting young people with their mental health and/or substance use
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, and adolescent and emerging adult mental health and substance use
- Assessment, counseling, and case management skills
- Knowledge of community resources and services in the Hamilton area, social and environmental determinants of health, evidence informed practices in supporting adolescent mental health
- Ability to develop and facilitate programs/groups for youth and facilitate staff training
- Ability to work in the community (various sites, mobile, etc.) to meet the needs of youth
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication, computer, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Current CPR and First Aid certificate
- Valid driver's license required
- Commitment to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd Centres
- Hours of work: 64 hours every 2 weeks, weekdays. Evenings and some weekends many occasionally be required.
Desired Qualifications
- Have an awareness of some of the issues that impact 2SLGBTQ+ youth with intersecting identities (e.g., homelessness, mental health, racialized identities, financial instability, developmental or intellectual disorders, etc.)
- Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
