Job Summary
Level III Classroom Paraprofessional at Hazel Park Junior High School for the regular school year, 5 days per week from 7:45 to 3:15, grades 6-8. Responsibilities include maintaining confidentiality, performing tasks promptly and professionally, acting in the best interests of students in the absence of immediate administrator direction, and performing other duties as assigned by program administrator or other staff. Requires following an individualized behavioral plan under teacher/psychologist direction, CPI training or willingness to obtain it, effective communication with teachers, pupils, parents, and the public, and supporting students with ASD within an inclusive classroom setting.
Required Qualifications
- Pass ETS Test, or have 2 years of college
- Shall have at least a high school diploma
- Good communication skills
- Ability to follow an individualized Behavioral Plan, under the teacher/ psychologist direction
- Good attendance record is expected
- Certified in the C.P.I. training and the ability to implement all stages of the training, including the restraint portion of Crisis Prevention, OR, willingness to take the training and implement procedures
- Work under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher
- Ability to communicate with teachers, pupils, parents, and the public in a professional, friendly manner
- Ability and willingness to deal with challenging behaviors under the direction of the teacher with poise and professionalism
- Maintain confidentiality of work related information
- Ability to work with a diverse group of students with ASD, implementing individualized behavioral plans
- Ability to be flexible and take on a variety of assignments within the classroom and the building
- Knowledge of Autism and experience and/or training in working with students with ASD is preferred
