Legislative Legal Intern

Job Summary
Conduct legal and policy research on proposed legislation, regulatory matters, and emerging issues affecting agriculture. Review, analyze, and track legislation throughout the legislative process, preparing bill summaries, policy analyses, and briefing materials for staff and leadership. Draft legislative correspondence, member communications, and content for the weekly Austin Newsletter. Attend and monitor committee hearings, legislative meetings, and Capitol proceedings to assist in developing legislative strategy. Draft legislative amendments, bill language, memoranda, and advocacy materials under supervision. Collaborate with legislators, legislative staff, stakeholders, and industry leaders on issues impacting Texas agriculture. Support the Texas Farm Bureau State Legislative Office in Austin during the 2027 Regular Session.
Required Qualifications
- Availability to be in Austin, Texas during the duration of the regular session of the 90th Texas Legislature (January 12, 2027-May 31, 2027)
- Knowledge of production agriculture and rural issues
- Current Law student classified as 2L or 3L
- Good organizational skills
- Ability and willingness to learn and extend skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent punctuality and attendance
- Ability to prioritize and handle time sensitive matters
- Occasional long, irregular work hours
- Travel as required
- Repeated use of PC, telephone, and office machines
- Extended periods of sitting and concentrating
- Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing and reaching in an office environment
- Occasional lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs
