Job Summary

Develop members' legislative agendas and coordinate the bill drafting process with Policy, Budget, and Legal Units. Maintain files on legislation, track bill status, and prepare talking points while staffing legislative committees to secure attendance and passage. Manage constituent outreach plans, coordinate local organization visits, and serve as the first point of contact for visitors to the Springfield office. Provide general administrative support including correspondence screening, meeting scheduling, and travel arrangements. Work in the Illinois Capitol Complex during standard hours, with occasional weekend requirements and session day adjustments based on the legislative schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in an unpredictable work environment
  • Willingness to work long hours, when needed
  • Professional demeanor
  • Ability to adapt and work with different or difficult personalities
  • A demonstrated interest in state government, politics, and policy
  • Current affairs knowledge
  • Public service experience
  • Non-profit work experience
  • Democratic politics knowledge
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to move about the Capitol complex as necessary
  • Ability to professionally exchange accurate information with staff, legislators, lobbyists, and the public

Desired Qualifications

  • Spanish language skills (both written and oral)
  • Certification in translation
