Job Summary
Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements while advising on intellectual property, confidentiality, data sharing, and commercial risk. Support commercialisation, innovation, and revenue-generating activities by providing legal input into procurement, funding, and partnership arrangements. Deliver commercial advice within the context of a public sector organisation, including supporting governance processes and advising on relevant legislation. Partner with senior leaders to manage legal risk and enable informed decision-making, while contributing to continuous improvement and legal literacy across the organisation. Uphold the University's commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity outcomes. This full-time, permanent role involves 37.5 hours per week and offers a salary of $155,000 – $172,000.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years PQE
- experience in commercial law
- experience within a large and complex organisation
- sound judgement
- pragmatic mindset
- ability to work autonomously on high-impact matters
- commercially aware
- comfortable navigating ambiguity
- ability to manage competing priorities
- ability to build strong relationships across diverse teams
- exposure to public law (ideally)
