Legal Counsel - Privacy

Job Summary
Own Orion's global privacy compliance by leading end-to-end privacy analysis, including drafting DPIAs and transfer assessments to accelerate market launches. Embed privacy-by-design into the development lifecycle with Engineering to resolve data-flow blockers, while managing data subject rights requests and maintaining core program artifacts like breach-response playbooks. Run first-pass reviews of data processing agreements using AI to cut turnaround times and design lawful cross-border transfer mechanisms for international customers. Stand up a self-service privacy-review intake supported by AI triage to scale the program without additional headcount. Provide clear, business-ready guidance to leadership on privacy risk and unblock expansion into new jurisdictions within 90 days. Partner directly with Product, Engineering, and GTM to enable global operations without slowing down.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of privacy and data-protection legal experience
- hands-on work applying GDPR and US state privacy laws to a technology product
- Active US bar admission
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- Proven AI fluency: using Claude, Gemini, or equivalent tools in daily workflow
- ability to design AI-assisted privacy processes
- Experience counseling Product and Engineering teams on privacy-by-design, DPIAs, and data flows
- Familiarity with cross-border transfer mechanisms (SCCs, transfer impact assessments, adequacy analysis)
- A collaborative, business-minded approach
- Comfort operating with ownership and limited oversight in a fast-moving environment
